06/11 – Brokers Need to Embrace Marketing, Technology & Social Media Says IBAO At the 2011 Young Brokers Conference, IBAO CEO Randy Carroll announced that “Brokers are slowly losing market share and their strong positions in the marketplace” as the percentage of the market share controlled by brokers decreases. In order to continue to compete effectively with direct writers, brokerages need to embrace marketing and IT initiatives like social media and technology.
According to Bryan Yetman (IBAO Board Chairman), 51% of Canadians are shopping online because it is faster and easier. Despite that, only 43% of brokerages provide online quotes, while 100% of the competition are offering this feature, and in many cases, the ability to purchase the policy online. Additionally, in a recent IBAO survey, 84% of brokers stated that they don’t have a system for prospecting clients. In order to remain competitive, brokerages will need to expand their online services to make themselves more accessible to consumers. This also includes embracing social media and building a more interactive online presence in order to drive new business.
